Light from Darkness

Have you ever seen
Light from darkness
Have you seen beauty
Come from pain?
Well we all have
the strength within us
To make a hard world
More humane

When a family
cares for a sick one
and gives him everything
they have and more
Maybe he loses
his own battle
But then they all win
The war

Fathers and mothers fleeing chaos
and with their kids brave the raging sea
If I pull them from the cold water
Am I saving them or me?

So when you next see
A shivering figure
seeking shelter
In a door
You can pass by
Hand in pocket
But are you richer?
Or merely poor?

And when you find yourself in darkness
And you find yourself in pain
Look trouble in the eye and find that light
and forge the beauty from your pain

Have you ever seen
Light from darkness
Have you seen beauty
Come from pain?
Well we all have
the strength within us
To make a hard world
More humane
